everything is changing so fast, and I’m afraid I can’t keep up.
therefore
I will hold myself to a standard of grace, not perfection.

seriously. where has this year gone? it seems like yesterday that my sweetheart proposed and now the wedding is around five months away. (oh, if you are a june bride, check my calendar for availability. eeee!) I’ve spent this week reflecting on this past year and dreaming of next year. I’m challenging myself to grow… artistically, spiritually, and emotionally.
and though it’s not the end of 2011 yet, I want to thank you all for being so wonderful. thank you for believing in me and allowing me to capture moments that are near and dear to your heart as well as mine. I’m looking forward to taking a little bit of a winter break, but I will continue to photograph sessions as long as it isn’t super freezing outside. officially though, I am now booking sessions for mid-March. for session information, just contact me!
I look forward to hot chocolate, snow, and hearing from you!
♥
p.s. if you’re on Pinterest, leave your link. I want to follow youuuuu.

I realized the other day that the “blog world” may not know that I’m engaged. I announced it on my personal facebook page and twitter, but never on here. My sweetheart, Andrew, proposed on March 5, 2011 at Biltmore Estate. It was cold, rainy, snowy, and perfect in every way. We’ve had so much fun talking about wedding plans and we’ve set our date for the summer of next year. I’ll be a June bride! eeeep!

Andrew and I are very nontraditional in the decorating sense. The wedding sections are stores kind of creep me out. They’re beautiful, but not for us. We’re very diy-ish. We like rustic and romantic. I’ve been browsing pinterest for the past couple of months and adding pins to our wedding boards.I like the idea of a nontraditional guestbook/guest activity. Here’s what I’ve seen that stands out to me:

painting - we could include our wedding date or favorite quote
jigsaw puzzle - guests write their name on a piece then you frame it
dictionary - bride & groom asked guests to circle words in a dictionary that would remind them of their wedding day
monogram – guest sign your last name initial. ours would be M
thumbprint - guests use their thumbprint to create a design. other designs include leaves on trees.

fact. I’m not a great writer. the only time that I feel like I can write my feelings down is between midnight and two in the morning. seriously, all other times fail me. college papers? oh yeah, those were all written in the middle of the night. so incredibly thankful for online english classes. during the day, I can’t focus to save my life. I kid you not. I get distracted so easily.
lately, I have felt like I’ve been in a rush. I hate that feeling. I have a classic type B personality. I like peace, quiet, solitude, and time for reflection. without that time, you can expect to see me frazzled in about two weeks. any more than that, I’m a complete and total emotional wreck. the last two weeks have been in the frazzled state. for the past two days, this verse has been in my mind:
“The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Exodus 14:14
you’ll probably laugh at me, but when I was growing up I thought that “being still” in the Bible literally meant standing still. but now, I know that it’s a little more than just standing still for a few minutes. I have the tendency to worry about the future. I stress about school, jobs, planning a wedding, staying organized, etc. etc. etc. but, God says that even then… be still.
I wonder how many times I’ve missed out simply because I haven’t been still. I wonder how many times I’ve stressed for no reason at all? I’ve had to ask myself, when was the last time I was really still? no distractions. no facebook. no twitter. no email. no pinterest. no tv. and the other mindless things I do throughout the day. just stillness. just peace. just me and my Bible. why fight my own battles? I just have to be still. God will fight for me. when was the last time you were truly still? ♥
